Wi-Fi vs. WiMAX vs. DSL

Actual performance of WiMAX is similar to the WiFi that is, both use a hotspot or the environment around the antenna where we can access information with a PDA, laptop or other gadgets.

The difference is in terms of coverage radius. For WiFi can reach 100 feet or about a radius of 30 meters, while WiMAX has a range of 25-30 miles or about 40-50 km (maximum 50 km). This means that WiMAX can be used as a substitute for traditional broadband is still using a phone line (such as, ASDL, ISDN) and cable (Internet via cable TV or a grid for example). For starters, WiMAX is intended for the use of fixed wireless.

Currently Indeed, many businessmen believe WiMAX technology will soon be worldwide. Whereas the development of Wi-Fi alone takes 10 years. This technology is actually a further development of the concept of Wi-Fi. This technology has a lot to provide convenience to humans, but have limited capacity and coverage constraints. While many large companies in the world need access to a wireless network that has a large data capacity, low cost and can be accessed from any place.

Wi-Fi technology has limited coverage, the most far approximately 100 meters only. Compare with WiMAX has a coverage radius of approximately 7 to 10 km. No one is projected as if the WiMAX wireless networking technology for urban areas. WiMAX - IEEE 802.16

With WiMAX everywhere we go in town, internet access can be done without the expensive price tag. To search for information does not need to go to the office or internet cafes, just sitting in the car while waiting for the traffic jam, and then open the notebook. As for Wi-Fi hotspot so out of the area, a direct data connection is dead.

WiMAX has the ability to deliver data at speeds up to 75 megabits per second (Mbps), while Wi-Fi is only 11 Mbps. Another advantage is the WiMAX play at a fairly low frequency and width, which is 2-6 gigahertz (GHz). While Wi-Fi set in the protocol in 2.4 GHz 802.11b and 802.11a protocols at 5 GHz.

WiMAX standard promises to provide long-distance broadband connectivity with DSL speed. Wireless components is expected to become a design system-on-a-chip a first for Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) with cost effectiveness that supports IEEE 802.16-2004 (previously known as IEEE 802.16REVd). CPE alone is used for applications sending and receiving a wireless broadband signal providing Internet connectivity.

WiFi (Wireless Fidelity) as a wireless technology that was quite popular with the scope of local network. Of course, with WiFi technology has many restaurants and cafes diigunakan in serving WiFi service to its customers by buying a prepaid WiFi card to access the Internet wirelessly from a notebook or PDA.

What distinguishes WiFi with WiMax is that WiFi is installed primarily in one of the 2.4 GHz spectrum yanmg generally do not require a license. Meanwhile, when compared with WiMAX, based on frequencies between 2-11 GHz, which later this frequency will be narrowed again as dictated by the WiMAX pioneers who are members of the WiMAX Forum.

While itself was a high-speed DSL to cable broadband access is only available for most computer users. So with WiMAX will allow high-speed wireless connection with the cost relatively cheaper and more effective for home users and businesses, both in urban and rural areas.

The problems that exist in the broadband sector has been completed with the WiMAX technology. It is very unfortunate for users / consumers who want to enjoy services like telephone and a local network that started to move into wireless systems, broadband access for business or housing still tend to rely on cable for transmitting data. As a result, operators as well as the consumer harm that is beyond the reach of cable.

Cable technologies like Digital Subscriber Line (DSL), cable and leasedline Modern still has competitiveness in terms of cost, convenience and devices that are available. And WiMAX solution falls on the attempt to unify the wireless industry as well as lowering the price of these wireless devices.
